Liver Tumour Centre

Leipzig University Liver Tumour Centre (ULTC) at Leipzig University Hospital for STERN extra

In her article ‘DIE VIRTUOSEN UNSERES INNERSTEN’ (The Virtuosos of Our Innermost), Kathrin Schwarze-Reiter describes in a very accessible way how well-coordinated liver surgery at the highest level performs operations on liver tumours and transplants: "While doctors such as Seehofer, Denecke and Berg shape the centre's public image, it is people like Annett Huke who lay the foundations for cutting-edge medicine. Huke, head of the nursing department, is responsible for the surgical and anaesthesia staff in 33 operating theatres. She ensures reliable staffing structures, a working atmosphere that promotes cohesion, and the integration of international specialists.(...) Walking down the corridors with her, you immediately understand what Daniel Seehofer means when he says: ‘Surgery is never a solo effort.’ In Leipzig, the roles mesh like gears that drive each other – no one could work without the other, especially in a field where millimetres can mean the difference between life and death."
